Training

One of the most important steps in keeping employees and jobsites safe and efficient is having properly trained personnel. At Tall Crane Equipment, we train hoist operators in the safe use and maintenance of personnel hoists through our Industrial Training School. We also ensure that all elevator mechanics and installers are fully trained and certified before being sent into the field. New mechanics are partnered with experienced employees to help them gain the experience necessary to safely maintain equipment.

At the James Hickey Industrial Training School, our hoist operator training services are available to everyone, regardless of whether they are employed by Tall Crane Equipment or not. Our goal is to ensure the safe operation of hoists on every jobsite by preparing workers, through training and hands-on experience, to take the Technical Safety BC operator’s exam. Through our training programs, students can learn how to handle accidents, passengers, and equipment.

We employ experienced hoist operators to train workers to use construction elevators in our three-day training course that involves an overview of laws, regulations, and hoist operations, as well as an outline of the daily checks and procedures that must be followed for safe use of a construction elevator. Our course also includes practical training with the actual operation of a hoist with our onsite construction hoist, where students will become familiar with all of the working components of the equipment.

Students are thoroughly tested in both written and practical forms. During the practical test, students will have to identify a created fault in the construction elevator and know the correct procedures to handle the fault. Once the tests are reviewed with instructors, the students will travel to Technical Safety BC to take their operator exam.
